Can I Get Invisalign If I Have Dental Crowns, Bridges, or Veneers?

If you’ve been wishing for a straighter smile but aren’t sure its possible due to existing dental work, the great news is that discreet, comfortable Invisalign often works with teeth that have already had a variety of restorative treatments. Here’s what you need to know about how this dynamic orthodontic system can help, even when you have restorations.

Dental Crowns

Many patients can’t believe that they can still get Invisalign treatment even if they have crowns on their teeth. While it may be more difficult to attach Invisalign attachments such bumps to a crown, it is often still possible to bond them to nearby teeth or create a suitable treatment that can work in lieu of attachments.

Dental Bridges

If your bite issue isn’t too severe, you may still be able to get Invisalign with a dental bridge. Unfortunately, however, should you need to move the abutment teeth, it may not be a good treatment option as this could damage your prosthetic.

Veneers

Because veneers are usually only affixed to the front surface of your teeth, they typically do not get in the way of Invisalign aligners. In some cases, however, your dentist may need to adjust your veneers after your orthodontic treatment has been concluded.

Remember, while having preexisting dental work doesn’t automatically disqualify you from getting Invisalign, only your dentist can determine if this treatment is possible. The good news is that in many cases, clear aligners will work just fine, however, if you aren’t determined to be a good candidate for Invisalign, you may still qualify for traditional braces.
